Product Description

A 12 foot clinker style rowing boat that can carry a large payload but is still car-toppable. This very light wooden boat looks as though it ought to weigh 4 times as much.

It looks lovely in our pond!

JJ.

This sturdy dory will give many years of service and still look beautiful. The design is adapted from the Swampscott 12 by Selway Fisher.

Originally designed as a fishing boat for easy beach launching this version makes an excellent recreational boat that can be carried on a roof rack.

This Dory is a light boat with a high freeboard. The draught is only about 100 mm making it ideal for shallow water. Despite the shallow draught the boat tracks well thanks to an extended skeg. To draw admiring glances the boat has been designed in a clinker style.

There is a buoyancy chamber fore and aft with a hatch for easy access.

We recommend 7ft oars for this boat.

The Dinky Dory is designed for rowing, but it is also possible to fit a motor – we recommend a light electric one.

Despite the complex look of the boat it can be assembled in about 40 hours from the kit using very few tools and basic woodworking skills. This boat is built using CLC's patented LapStitch™ joints which means that the result is a remarkably stiff and strong hull that has the appearance of traditional lapstrake or clinker planking.

The kit includes:

Study manual

This is intended for pre-build study or to help with the decision to purchase. This is the comprehensive manual that accompanies the kit; reading it will help you decide whether or not you can build the boat. It describes all of the techniques that will be used during the build and also a step by step guide to construction. Scale drawings are used throughout as well as photographs of critical jobs.

If, later, you decide to purchase the kit the cost of this printed manual will be deducted from the kit price.

This manual does not contain the plans of the panels with the cutting instructions so it is not possible to build the boat from scratch using only this manual.

PDF study manual
